SEI recognizes the importance of staying connected with our partners across the county. With the current challenging times, we have adapted how we need to communicate. Virtual platforms have allowed us to still offer opportunities for sharing concerns, resources, and vital peer-to peer bonding.

CLASS Act Scholars Zoom Chat Session

Recently, our current CLASS Act Scholars had a wonderful Zoom chat session to virtually reconnect and discuss how they are doing both professionally and personally during the pandemic. It was a time to laugh and share uplifting moments they have experienced over the last month. A few tears were shed as the reality of missing their students, and their colleagues laid heavy on their hearts. It was impressive to hear how they each were finding unique ways to stay connected with their students. They shared educational tips and resources with one other that could be utilized with their students and parents. One valuable take away from their virtual interactions was, “keep it simple.” The children are delighted to have simple exchanges with their teachers, such as sharing a story, song, or movement activity. Many scholars are using online video platforms to interact and “see” their students each week.

They also shared how they are keeping positive mindsets while waiting for their preschools to reopen. Their love of baking, singing, and spending quality time with their families were some ways that the scholars are spending time at home.

One scholar said of the Zoom session, “I enjoyed seeing smiling, friendly faces and chatting. I am looking forward to another one and possibly getting together in person one day!” We look forward to that day as well!

Readiness Coalition Suburban Leaders Meeting

SEI hosted a virtual meeting with the suburban readiness coalition leaders, a group of principals and other leaders in Kindergarten buildings countywide. Nearly every district in the county was represented, and each one shared their heartfelt concerns for the families, students, and educators in their communities. They also gave updates on how their district is proceeding with Kindergarten registration, screenings, and other plans for kindergarten transitions. Some even shared valuable resources on using virtual learning tools and techniques along with mental health supports during this Covid-19 pandemic. Each leader was asked to give one word to summarize how they are currently feeling during these uncertain times. Their responses were sincere and genuine and conveyed their deep commitment to those they serve. Their extraordinary efforts and hard work are needed and appreciated during this unprecedented time.
