About Ninth Grade Success

We measure Ninth Grade Success by the accumulation of 6.5 credits and attaining a 3.0 GPA at the end of a student’s freshman year. The University of Chicago reports that success in ninth grade is a critical indicator of future success [1]. The Education to Workforce framework recommends using multiple measures in 9th grade to strengthen predictions [2]. The disparities seen in the charts highlight the need to reduce systemic inequality in educational opportunities.
